What if I need to renew my license?
Connecticut residents will be offered the option of a 90-day extension period on learner’s permits, drivers’ licenses and identification cards that expire between March 10, 2020 and June 8, 2020. Each affected credential holder will have an additional 90 days from his or her expiration date to renew without penalty.
Are commercial driver’s licenses included in the 90-day extension?

Yes

What types of road tests are currently postponed?

Passenger road tests and retests are postponed until further notice.

Will scheduled knowledge tests be postponed?

Yes. Knowledge tests are postponed until further notice at all DMV facilities.

Will parking permits for the disabled be extended?

Temporary permits will not be extended. Permanent permits will be extended in conjunction with the extension of a license or ID card.

Is emissions testing included in the extension?

Yes.

Can a person with an expired CT driver’s license use it to board a commercial flight?

Yes. TSA will accept a license/identification card for up to one year past the expiration date.

Will an expired CT driver’s license be valid as proof of age/identity?

DMV cannot confirm that an applicant’s credential will be recognized outside of the state or by non-government entities.

Will law enforcement accept an expired license?

Yes.  Notice has gone out to state and local police departments and national and state databases accessed by law enforcement.

Can I still go into a AAA or DMV Express location?

Does the extension include motor vehicle registrations?

Yes, vehicle, vessel and temporary registrations expiring between March 10, 2020 and June 8, 2020 have been extended 90 days. Customers are encouraged to renew my mail, online at www.ct.gov/dmv or phone at 800-842-8222 or 860-263-5700 in the Hartford area if possible

Will this affect the Real ID deadline of October 1, 2020?

The Real ID deadline has been extended to October 1, 2021.
